Focus on the face

Fresh from the FreeFrom Awards in London where Bee Loved was awarded Bronze for its Face Cream, we think it’s the ideal time to focus on the face. In this blog post, we take a look at some common skin concerns that can affect the face and how to deal with them.
Rosacea
Flushing, blushing and redness are often the first signs of Rosacea, followed by small red bumps and pimples, prominent blood vessels, persistent redness and dry, rough skin. Not only can Rosacea cause painful burning, itching and stinging sensations, the visible effects can affect the confidence and self-esteem of sufferers.
While there is no known cure for Rosacea, it can be effectively managed, bringing about physical relief and visible improvements to the skin.
The key is to treat the inflammation with topical skin treatments that contain anti-inflammatory features. Resist the urge to slather your red, rough skin with petroleum-derived products which will inhibit the skin’s own ability to breathe; instead opt for a moisturiser such as Bee Loved’s Face Cream which contains  beeswax, providing a protective barrier from external irritants while supporting the skin with well-documented anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Bee Loved’s Face Cream also features the calming effects of Chamomile, soothing redness, burning and itching. Highly regarded for its powerful anti-inflammatory effect, it is particularly beneficial in treating redness, treating allergies and rashes. In the lab it has even been proven to be topically effective when compared to 0.25% hydrocortisone.
Rosacea sufferers should also stay out of the sun and avoid a diet of spicy foods and alcohol, although happily for most, a daily cup of coffee may help restrict the dilation of the blood vessels that cause redness and flushing.
Wrinkles
While wrinkles do tend to increase as we get older, there are steps you can take to effectively fight the signs of ageing. Wrinkles are in part caused by the effects of free radicals born of environmental toxins, poor diet, lifestyle factors and sun exposure. Managing your exposure to external factors that spawn free radicals and absorbing healthy doses of antioxidants that help destroy those already in your system can help lessen the appearance of wrinkles. For example, the protective barrier created by skincare ingredients such as beeswax protects against environmental damage and ageing. When air pollution, smoke, chemicals and other irritants come into contact with skin, free radicals are formed, causing premature ageing and damage to your immune system. Beeswax helps prevent these pollutants from reaching your skin, helping in the fight against ageing. Skincare products containing antioxidants vitamins A, E and C are also powerful allies in anti-ageing, seeking out and destroying free radicals in the body. Aloe Vera, a key ingredient in Bee Loved’s Face Cream, contains this powerful vitamin punch, while also being rich in omega-3 fatty acids and beta carotene.
Dry and sensitive skin
Whether your skin reacts angrily to external irritants or can’t soak up enough moisture to combat its rough and scaly appearance, dry and sensitive skin types can benefit immensely from gentle treatments designed to heal and nourish the skin at cellular level. While there are many products on the market that boast superior skin softening abilities, their benefits are often only short term, with ingredients such as sodium laureth sulphate, fragrances and petrochemcials irritating the skin and inhibiting its ability to breathe. Natural beeswax, by comparison, which forms the basis of Bee Loved’s award-winning Face Cream, contains Vitamin A which softens and rehydrates the skin. Beeswax also acts as an emollient and humectant, locking in moisture while supporting the skin’s own ability to breathe. Bee Loved’s Face Cream also includes Evening Primrose Oil, brimming with omega-6 essential fatty acids that can be absorbed both through food and the skin to help you meet your daily omega-6 requirements. Evening Primrose Oil is particularly beneficial for people with dry and problem skin, creating a barrier against external irritants while preventing skin inflammation and maintaining hydration by reducing moisture loss.
Facial acne
It’s not only teenagers than can suffer from acne, but adults of all ages too! There can be many causes of acne, from hormonal imbalances and dietary choices to excessive oil production. Regardless of the root cause of your acne it’s important that you regularly cleanse and moisturise your skin, clearing your pores of dead skin cells, oil, dirt and sweat, and preventing your skin from drying out. When choosing a cleanser, be sure to opt for a toxin and chemical free product, as known irritants such as Sodium Laureth Sulphate can further aggravate already tender skin. You should also choose a “free from” moisturiser, avoiding products with petroleum-derived ingredients that can exacerbate pore blockages and the inflammation and associated with acne.
